Bail vs. Bond
Bail = the dollar amount set by the judge. Bond = the surety instrument posted to guarantee that amount.
Types of Bail in Florida
- Cash Bail: You pay the full amount directly to the court. Refunded when the case concludes.
- Surety Bond (Bail Bond): A bail bondsman posts a guarantee for 10% — the most common method.
- Property Bond: Real property used as collateral. Requires court approval and appraisal.
- Release on Recognizance (ROR): Released without paying — must just promise to appear.
