When you cosign (also called "indemnify") a bail bond, you take on serious financial responsibility.
Your Obligations
- Pay the full bail amount if the defendant fails to appear
- Ensure the defendant attends all court dates
- Pay any recovery costs if the defendant flees
- Potentially forfeit any collateral you provided
Can You Remove Yourself as Cosigner?
In most cases, yes. You can contact the bail bond company and request to be removed. The bondsman will then surrender the defendant back to jail and the original bond is revoked.
